Oily Skin...Can I Control It?

We know oily skin is caused by an overactive sebaceous gland, it's affected by hormones, and it's genetic.

How does this information help me?

Knowing the causes help you understand the problem, and relieve your mind of the fact...

"It's not your fault!"

It's cause by the sebaceous gland produceing too much oil. It's a large gland and most active in the nose area.

The pores in this area are also larger to allow the larger flow of oil produced.

The glands respond differently in each person, therefore the amount of oil produced is different.

Oily Skin Care Regimen

Oily skin cannot be stopped, but you can make changes that will help control it.

Using the right skin care products for oily skin is as important as the routine you implement.

Healthy Dietary Changes

Although foods don't directly affect oily skin, it is recommended that you eat healthier for cleansing internally.

  1. Eliminate sugar, soft drinks and sweets as much as you can.
  2. Use saturated fats and oils very sparingly.
  3. Add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet.
  4. Add more whole grains, legumes, and nuts to your diet.
  5. Research indicates iodine aggravates acne. You should reduce (but don't eliminate) your intake of fish.
  6. Use regular salt as opposed to iodized salt.
  7. Don't forget to hydrate, lots of water is great for any skin type and for you!

Caring For Oily Skin

Rose Face Wash

  1. Use a mild cleanser, and gently wash your face twice a day, three times if needed. This skin type attracts dirt. Dirt and oil aggravates the clogging of your pores. Wash with warm water to loosen the dirt and rinse with cold water. Make sure your cleanser doesn't dry out your skin.
  2. Avoid cold creams and lotions, they leave a greasy film on your face. Use water-based and non-comedogenic moisturizer as needed.
  3. Use toners and astringents which contain alcohol. Use a light, non-greasy liquid cleanser.
  4. Choose cosmetics that are water-based or non-comedogenic. The oil based cosmetics leave a greasy film on your skin and tend to create further blemishes.
  5. Always remove your makeup before going to bed and cleanse your face.
  6. Stress is a factor! So relax… and enjoy yourself!
