Nutrition Is The Key To Good Health!

Good nutrition promotes a healthy lifestyle and helps prevent diseases.

Your body requires six different nutrients, which includes carbohydrates, fats, proteins, water, minerals and vitamins. Your body cannot function without nutrients.

Nutrients allow your body to break down the food you eat into energy. Everything you do requires energy.

A healthy diet impacts how you feel and how you perform. Following a healthy diet and choosing healthy foods will provide the nutrients your body requires.

Today we have more choices in healthy foods. Organic Food is becoming available in almost every grocery, as well as health food stores. In season, farmer's markets are numerous in most places and sell their own organic food and usually at better prices.

A variety of the different food groups is essential because each food group provides something different. A good example is calcium, a woman needs a sufficient amount daily to maintain good health.

Nutritional Food

However, not everyone eats all of the same foods or eats three meals a day. Can you still be healthy?

Yes, you can be a vegetarian or vegan and still get all of the required nutrients that you need. There have been many studies that show meat is not a requirment to be healthy.

An excellent resource for becoming vegetarian is The New Becoming Vegetarian: The Essential Guide To A Healthy Vegetarian Diet. This is one of the best vegetarian books I have found.

I have never been one to eat three meals daily. I've always eaten two meals a day but I have learned to incorporate a good snack into my day that is either fruit or veggie. By all means, I'm not saying only eat two meals per day, but if you happen to be like me eating only two meals each day, plan a good snack and choose healthy foods for your meals.

Nutritious food is your best source for nutrients. However, if you aren't getting the proper amount of nutrients from food, you should consider nutritional supplements.

There are also a lot of good all natural remedies that are years old and do work, but on the same hand there are times these can be a potential threat.

Juicing is another way to obtain nutrients your body needs. Because you use raw vegetables and fruits, you consume more nutrients and gain health benefits as well.

There are many excellent resources about nutrition available. I have reviewed 10 nutrition books, some of which are new and some that have been around quite some time.

Calories

You need calories because that is the energy in food.

Calories always get a bad rap because of weight gain. Calories do not cause weight gain unless you are overeating, or eating the wrong foods and/or not getting any physical exercise.

There is only one kind of calorie no matter what food it is. Choosing the right foods to eat and maintaining a healthy diet is all you need to do.

Your body is always burning calories, even when you're asleep.

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the energy used (in calories) by your body to perform basic functions, including inner energy expenditure, heart beat, respiration, and body temperature regulation. Calculate your BMR

Good nutrition and physical activity all work together to promote good health. It's a combination, there isn't any "one" quick fix to good health.
