How to Recognize and Stop Mold Allergies

Mold allergies are a problem for many people. Reason being, there is no particular time of year that they aren't are prevalent.

Thus some people can have allergic reactions to mold all year long.

It's not the most common allergy which is rather surpising because we are exposed to mold every day.

The symptoms can be treated with great success, eliminating the needless suffering of many. Sneezing and sniffling can be taken care of and you will feel 100% better.

Warning Signs

The symptoms you will experience if mold allergies are your problem are similar to reactions to many allergens.

Skin rashes, a nose that runs constantly, a stopped-up nose, and itchy, watery eyes are a few of the things you may suffer from.

If you are doing yard work and have these symptoms your allergies may be reactions to mold.

Moist places, such as basements, are conducive to growing mold. If it smells musty, there is probably mold present.

By doing skin tests and taking a blood sample, your doctor can tell you if mold is the culprit. He can get a good idea of what you are allergic to and the best method of treatment by doing these tests.

Handling and Curing Allergies

How you or your doctor handle the allergies you have are important so that you can end this needless suffering.

Medications are available over the counter for easing symptoms of allergies. Antihistamines and decongestants are two of the most common medications.

If your allergies are more serious, there are stronger doses of these medicines which can be prescribed by your doctor.

There is also the option of steroids. The use of steroids can greatly reduce or eliminate asthma problems and congestion in your nose.

Steroids can be used safely for extended periods of time. This is a wonderful choice for people suffering from mold allergies year round.

Prevention is the best medicine. If you have allergies to mold, the best way of treating this on your own is to stay away from known places or foods that can cause reactions.

Do not eat food that is known to grow mold, such as cheese and mushrooms. Staying away from areas that are damp is another preventive option.

Furnace filters can also harbor mold so change them quite frequently to prevent this from happening.

If you use a combination of these treatments and preventions, the episode of allergic reaction to mold will be greatly reduced.

A Consideration for Mold Allergies is Fluconazole

If you have problems with sinuses and allergies that are always present at any time of the year, you may be suffering from mold allergies.

Although mold exists everywhere and causes a lot of problems for allergy sufferers, doctors normally treat sinus and allergy problems without considering mold as the culprit.

A prescription for fluconazole may just be the best thing for your mold allergies. This may take care of your symptoms and bring you some respite from the suffering these allergies can cause.

A culture of your nose should be taken by your doctor. If he does not do this, you should ask him about it. This will tell him if mold is indeed causing your problems.

Labs can sometimes tell your doctor the type of mold that is causing you problems and an anti-fungal medicine may help in addition to the fludonazole.

Mold is Present in Many Forms

Mold is a fungus that can have several hundred thousand forms. Some will only mildly irritate you while others such as black mold or toxic mold can be quite serious.

Exposure to these molds can be life-threatening. Mold is present in all homes and it is very adept at causing you to be sick.

Very young children and old people whose immune systems are compromised are at risk for becoming ill from mold exposure.

If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of mold poisoning, make sure to tell your doctor so he can prescribe the right medicines.

Treating Mold Alergies

If you have tried all other medications for relief of your symptoms related to mold exposure, Fluconazole is one of the most common prescriptions for treating mold allergies.

This drug is also known as Diflucan, a medication that also treats many yeast infections. These infections are in the same family as mold, the fungus family.

Fluconazole can be obtained in pills or liquid. The pills are usually prescribed to adults and children may take the liquid.

As with any medication, if you are taking other medicines your doctor should be aware of this.

Diabetic medications, treatment for high blood pressure and sleeplessness can have adverse reactions when combined with fluconazole.

There are also over the counter medicines that can be dangerous when combined with fluconazole.

Side effects are always a consideration when you are taking any medicine and fluconazole is no exception. However mild side effects normally subside on their own.

Typical side effects include but are not limited to diarrhea, nausea, and a loss of appetite.

These should only be temporary and if they do not go away or you develop something more serious, consult your doctor as soon as possible.
