Combination Skin Care Tips

Combination skin seems to be the most common of the skin types.

It can be an indication of seborrhea, seborrheic dermatitis and seborrheic eczema, which are skin conditions.

Seborrhea is an over production of oil on the scalp and face.

The area along your forehead, down the nose and the chin is the oily part of this skin type, or the T-zone.

The T-zone area has more oil glands and will have more blemishes because of the excess oil.

Other areas of your face are apt to be flaky and dry because of a lack of oil.

Because of the difference in the areas of combination skin, the skin care products you use will be different.

Products you will use for the T-zone helps absorb the oil.

Products you will use on the rest of your face need to be for dry or normal skin. That will depend on your particular case.

If your skin outside the T-zone is dry and flaky, treat it with dry skin care products.

Tips for Combination Skin Care

T-Zone Mask

   - Wash your face with a gentle, water-soluble cleanser. A gel based or mild foaming cleanser works well.

   - Avoid bar soaps or bar cleansers of any kind.

   - Use a good sunscreen with UVA protecting ingredients.

   - Exfoliate with a beta hydroxy acid product.

   - Treat dry areas with a moisturizer loaded with antioxidants.

   - Use products that normalize your skin, ones that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs or fruit acids) or retinols.

The T-Zone Area

   - Use an oil-absorbing facial mask as needed.

   - Apply a topical antibacterial product containing benzyl peroxide to blemishes.

   - Use oil-blotting papers to absorb the excess oil and touch up with a light weight, sheer pressed powder.
